Farmer’s Market

There’s nothing like a big bag of kettle corn
On a Central Coast afternoon
Kids munching on fresh strawberries
And dancing to my songs, moms and dads joining too
Chorus
At a farmer’s market, someplace in SLO County
On any given day, sharing nature’s bounty
It’s a fine place to gather, buyers and seller alike
Walk right in, see your friends, don’t forget Thursday nights
Farmer’s, oh farmer’s, farmer’s market
Take a look at all the produce on display
Under the rows of pop-tents
Fill your bags with lots of cool stuff
And say “Hello” to the local merchants
Chorus
Bridge
There’s pies, tamales, chips
Have you tried any BBQ yet
I’m sitting here playing guitar
Adding a little entertainment

The Bird Mama From New Cuyama

Between the Caliente Range to the North
And the Sierra Madre to the South
There’s a raven, found a haven, by an old ranch house
He was too young to fly, poor little guy, might have died
Until he was rescued by the Bird Mama from New Cuyama
 Chorus
All the birds, they wanna, wanna
Fly a straight line to New Cuyama
There’s a safe place, no trauma, no drama
Hanging with the Bird Mama from New Cuyama

Out on the ranch there’s lots of horses
Barking dogs and barns and hay
Now all the birds are spreading the word, there’s a cool place to stay
There’s a great, big flock, they squawk and talk, feathered friends rock
And they all love the Bird Mama from New Cuyama
Chorus
Bridge
Some of the birds, she’ll give them a name
But everyone’s special, she loves them all the same

Humble Pie

At the market when you see your friends
You never know when you’ll see them again
So give ‘em a hug, give ‘em five
Spread the joy of being alive
Chorus
Humble pie, humble pie
Take a bite of life, tell everyone “hi”
Give ‘em a smile as big as the sky
Enjoy each little taste of country pie
Don’t be stressed, do your best
Let the world go by, you’re just here for the pie
Hot or cold, slice or whole
There’s something for everyone, young or old
Chorus
Bridge
Some like filling, some like crust
Eat what you like, leave the rest for us
Chorus

Share (a tribute to Los Osos)
The liquor store sign says “we got the coldest beer in town”
The diner next door’s got the best burgers around
Yea, we’re lower middle class, nothing special here
Except our one unique quality, we like to share
Chorus
Our couches, tables, old beds, and chairs
We put ‘em on the street, show everyone we care
Just tape on a little sign that says it’s free
It’s probably something that somebody needs
Old clothes and shoes, appliances, dishes and silverware
We put it on the street because we share
Every morning my wife and I take the dog for a walk
And check out all the new items around the block
If we see something good I’ll run home and get my truck
Come back and load it and thank my luck, that we all share
Chorus
Bridge
Haven’t had to buy a piece of furniture in years
Or a bike, or a kitchen sink, toys or a teddy bear
If you wait, any day it’ll show up, it’s all there, because we share

A Little Part of Me

I was playing at a farmer’s market, set up on the street
A girl about 10, frail and thin, was pulling her mom towards me
Mom had to help her walk, don’t think she could talk
But hearing my music, her face lit up
Well, mom sat her down, her hand tapped the ground
Not quite in time but her heart was beating with mine
Chorus
Been working hard at living
Now I’m working hard at giving
Just a chair, guitar, and me
I never know who I’ll touch
But when I do it means so much
So I’ll keep singing, playing, and giving – a little part of me
I sang to her deep, dark eyes, her joy almost made me cry
She sat for a couple of songs, then Mom had to move along
Helping her up, Mom looked at me and smiled
A simple thank you for sharing with her child
Chorus
Bridge
I’ve sung for a lot of people, made a lot of friends
I sure hope to see Mom and her girl again

Sara’s Micros

Chorus
Growing, growing, Sara’s mircos are growing, growing
Sara’s micros are growing, growing, Sara’s micros
In a little greenhouse down in Arroyo
There’s trays and trays of Sara’s micros
Little green seedlings, delicious and appealing
Take a pinch, put it in a sandwich
Or eat it straight if you can’t wait
Chorus
From tiny seeds sprout emerald beads
Cut at an inch or two, little sprouts just for you
Like a bite full of the sun, eating sprouts is so much fun
A crunchy crunch, crunch for lunch
Or a tender blender for dinner
Chorus
Vamp
Shout it out, shout for sprouts (repeat)

Beef By the Beach

Off of Highway 1, just past ol’ Cayucos town
Up on the hills there’s cattle roaming around
You can spot ‘em on the bluffs above the ocean
Grazing on the green grass that keeps them growin’
Chorus
Beef by the beach, sand, sun, surf and meat
Cowboys riding free through fields overlooking the sea
Catch the sounds of crashing waves out on the reefs
Happy grass fed cattle, beef by the beach
Early morning you can hear the cattle moo
Afternoons catch the aroma of a BBQ
Juicy steaks and ribs cooking over wood
The sites and sounds of country living, man it’s good
Chorus
Bridge
Can’t think of a better way of living
Than hanging on the shore, just eating!

San Luis Obispo
Way down in San Luis Obispo
That’s where my baby, she left home
Lord, I tried to treat her good, did everything, everything I could
But I guess she never really wanted my love

Well, I traveled and searched the roads over
Every city, every town I came upon
Hoping I could find her tender love and make it mine
But I knew all the time I never would
Bridge
Night and night I wonder, where that ol’ woman could be
Guess I’ll never stop loving her
How could that woman, run right out on me
No, she didn’t even stop to say goodbye

Way down in San Luis Obispo
You can see me sitting on the street
With my ol’ guitar, playing music soft and sweet
‘bout the woman I love and always will
Summer Grilling

The cold raindrops sting as they hit my face
Just like your words when you left this place
A nasty wind sends chills down my spine
There’s nothing worse than being alone in wintertime
Chorus
(I’m thinking about) summer grilling, we’d cook hot dogs and steaks
Warm nights, open fire, filling up our plates
Tonight it’s cold spaghetti and it isn’t very thrilling
All I can think about is you and me and summer, summer grilling
Outside the back door where we played our guitars
There’s soggy ashes, memories, and scars
Branches on the roof are knocking and banging
Your pink apron’s on the wall where you left it hanging
Chorus
Bridge
My heart’s as empty as the leafless trees
Only a fool would stay here and freeze (I wish we were)

Picklebutt Wood
A chunk of wood never looked so good
A boat, a pup, anyway it’s cut
Amazing when it’s fancied up
And it’s called Picklebutt
Chorus
Picklebutt wood, yea it’s really good
Smooth and pretty, artsy and witty
Shining star of the neighborhood
The one and only Picklebutt Wood

Wiggle butt, giggle buttHot butt, funny butt
Bubble butt, scuttle buttBig butt, skinny butt
Happy mutt, lucky duckBoat sunk, top bunk
Beach hut, say what?Pretty skunk, young punk
Salty nut, full cupFunky butt, flat butt
Sink the putt, pet the pupUgly butt, cool butt
Honey hut, maybe notIn the rut, tire stuck
Smooth as a baby’s butt……….PicklebuttRed truck, what luck………Picklebutt

The only limit is imagination
A mountain, sunset, flag of a nation
Take a piece of wood and fix it up
And it’ll turn out Picklebutt
Chorus

CD 2

Happy Dog
Driving in the car with my head out the window
My tongue flapping in the breeze
I don’t know where I’m going but it sure smells good
Passing through the neighborhood
Chorus
I’m a hap-hap-happy dog
I’m a hap-hap-happy dog
I like to get petted and I like to sleep
I like to play and I love to eat!
I’m a hap-hap-happy dog
I’m a hap-hap-happy dog
Is that a ball I see in your hand
Oh please, throw it for me
I’ll bring it right back as fast as I can
And you can keep on throwing as fast as you can
Chorus
Oh boy, here comes my dinner
The best meal ever
I hope you don’t think I’m rude
I’m eating so fast ‘cause it tastes to good!
Chorus

Rent Free
You said we’d always be together, then you took off on that plane
You said you’d love me forever, I believed you, I must be insane
Though you’re so far away I still hear your voice
Over and over and over again, it’s like I have no choice
Chorus:Everything you’ve done, every word you’ve said
You’re still right here living rent free…..in my head
You’re living rent free (3X) in my head
Well, I hear you’ve settled down in a place up on the coast
My friends say now when I see you I’m imagining a ghost
It’s getting hard to figure out what is and isn’t true
My reality is twisted as long as I’m stuck on you
Chorus
Yea I see you in those tight Cinch jeans waving you hands through the air
Dancing and laughing like you don’t got a care
It’s just like you’re here, the smell of your hair
The scent of your perfume, man, this is driving me crazy
My head’s about to go boom
Everything you’ve done, every word you’ve said
You’re still right here living rent free
You’re a squatter in my mind, I better call the cops
You’re like the live news cycle that doesn’t stop
Through storms and wars, burning stores
24/7 from hell to heaven
A Tear
A young Marine holds a baby in her arms
Keeping that little one safe from any harm
Out by the gate something went wrong
A flash of fire, 13 were gone

Chorus
A tear for our country, a tear for our soldiers
Tears and tears for mothers and fathers, lost sisters and brothers
How many more tears can I find
To mourn for those left behind

Part of me is angry, part is asking why
Such a senseless loss, should I scream or cry
Makes me want to stand out in the rain
And try to wash away this blood, blood red stain
Chorus
Bridge
We’ve had some great leaders, also had some bad
Some gave very little, some gave all they had
Bolt the Bird
Bolt the Bird, Bolt’s the best
Up in the treetops, chirping in his nest
Bolt couldn’t fly, hurt his wing
But Bolt the Bird could sing, that was his thing

Left the nest at an early age
Wasn’t one to be stuck in a cage
Sang in Vegas, sang on the coast
Just singing in the truck is what he loves the most

Bolt the Bird, sings anything
Pop or country, Bolt is the king
Got a birdy hat and a birdy coat
Bolt puts on a show, belting every note

Standing on the steering wheel, hitting the road
Got Taylor Swift on the radio
Bobbin’ up and down, tapping his feet
Rockin’ the world with his mighty tweets

Bolt the Bird, his name was Bolt
The greatest of all time, Bolt the GOAT
Bolt couldn’t fly, hurt his wing
But Bolt the Bird could sing, that was his thing (2X) Man, he could sing

The Proudest Dad

She said “Pa, I’m afraid, riding this bike, I’m not that brave
Can you hold on and don’t let go, and please, go really slow”
She wouldn’t crash, she wouldn’t fall, there wasn’t any chance at all
I was there a holding on, making sure we made it home
Chorus
With a father’s love I tried to protect her from the world
I’d lay down my life as only a father could
Whatever it took, I’d give it all I had
And every day she made me the proudest dad

She loved horses and dolls, I don’t think she played army at all
I have to say I was surprised, when she signed up for a soldier’s life
Chorus
Bridge
From child to soldier, it just seems so fast
But here I stand watching, as she marches past
Chorus
With a daughter’s love she’ll try to protect me from the world
She’ll lay down her life as only a soldier could
Whatever it takes, I know she’ll give it all she has
She’s made me so proud to be her dad
And I thank the Lord each day, that I’m her dad

 Biker Dream

Folks think I’m just a simple country boy
But I got a wild streak deep inside
I can get crazy riding on two wheels
Wrapping my legs around all that chrome and steel
Chorus
I’m living an American bad boy dream
I got the highway, my girl, and a bike that screams
Gonna make it a party and blow off some steam
Living my American, bad boy biker dream
That motorcycle is long, dark and sexy
It’s almost as hot as my wife
With her on the back, wind blowing through her hair
Blasting by we love all the jaw-dropping stares
Chorus
Bridge
Love the rumble, love the roar
Gonna keep on riding from shore to shore

These Moments

Sometimes she thinks I’m an idiot, sometimes she says I’m great
Sometimes I’m a pest in the kitchen, but I can fix anything that breaks
Sometimes she’ll drag me off the couch and make me get up and walk
Sometimes I need to clear my mind, she’ll just listen and let me talk
Chorus
She’s got patient hands and loving arms
A sweet, warm smile and tender heart
She can build me up and calm me down
Keeps me honest and on the ground
She helps me recover if I’ve stumbled and I’ve blown it
Our days are full of these moments

Sometimes she’s in a loving mood, sometimes she likes to play
Sometimes she’s holding back her tears, sometimes she needs to pray
Sometimes I can read her thoughts and know just what to say
Sometimes I don’t have a clue, I just hold her ‘til she’s OK
Chorus
I’ve got patient hands and loving arms
A big warm smile and tender heart
I can build her up and calm her down
I keep her steady and on the ground
I’ll help her recover if she’s stumbled or she’s blown it
Our days are full of these moments
Bridge
She makes sure I’m eating healthy
And don’t complain that we ain’t wealthy
 Chorus
With patient hands and loving arms
We both can smile and share our hearts
Building up or calming down
Keeps us honest and on the ground
We help each other if we’ve stumbled and we’ve blown it
Our days are full of these moments
Our days are full of these moments
Our lives are full of these moments
I Did It (and I won)
Lately I’ve been hitting the pavement and trying to run
Decided to sign up for a half marathon
Didn’t know if I could do it or not
But I figured what the heck, I’d give it a shot
I had three goals: make the finish line, do it under three hours, and not be the last
And you know what? I’m not that fast, but I did it!
Chorus
When I got to the end I don’t think I was anywhere near first place
But I saw a lot of smiles and it put one right on my face
Oh-oh, I had a lot of fun, running (singing) along with everyone
I did it, oh I did it, so for me, yeah, I did it and I won
There was a song competition not far from my home
So I sat down and practiced a couple of songs
I’m not that great and I don’t sing that hot
But I figured what the heck, I’d give it a shot
I had three goals: don’t blow the words, mess up the chords, or get laughed off
And you know what? I hung tough and I did it
Chorus
Bridge
Ain’t trying to break world records or get my face on TV
Just getting out and doing something is plenty fine for me
Chorus

Just Because I’m Me

Lord, You are the most awesome power on Earth
You hold in Your hands the stars and the universe
While You command all creation, the sun and sky and seas
You still watch and care for me
Chorus
Lord, You love me just because I’m me
It doesn’t matter what I’ve done or what I hope to be
I know I’m not perfect, I know I’ll never be
But Lord, You love me, just because I’m me
Of all the people who’ve walked the face of this Earth
From Adam to Moses, to this very day
I know I’m special in Your eyes and in Your heart
You even call me your child
Chorus
Bridge
I stumble now and then
But Your grace never ends
Chorus

Can Anybody Give Me Anything

Some people lust for things they can own
A big house, big cars, their own pot of gold
But riches can vanish, fast as a falling star
Leaving absolutely nothing but an empty heart
Chorus
Can anybody give me anything
Can anybody give me anything
Can anybody give me anything that’s better
Than my faith in a loving God
There’s sickness and health, joy and misery
They come and they go like the tides of the sea
But there’s treasure in heaven that no one can touch
Yea, standing with Jesus in the glory of God, hey
Chorus
Bridge
I know I could be dying, my time could soon come
But I got a lifetime of faith, it’s gonna carry me ‘til I’m gone
All the people around me, yea no one can help me here
But that’s OK, I’ve got hope, yea, hope and prayer
Chorus (2X)
Simply Jesus

A quiet moment on my knees
My heart cries out to be free
I can find a light, straight through the darkness
All I need is simply Jesus

My broken pieces, I lay them out
Looking for answers, fighting my doubts
Searching for strength to overcome my weakness
Then I see it’s simply Jesus
Unsearchable riches, I can’t explain
So deep and wide, it all comes down to just one thing
A quiet moment on my knees
A ray of hope I cannot see
My heart and soul, overwhelmed with goodness
And I know it’s simply Jesus
